About

…but before I can live with other folks I’ve got to live with myself. The one thing that doesn’t abide by majority rule is a person’s conscience.

Hello! I’m Kat, a transgender girl known online as Kat3Approach. I am a Hongkonger currently residing in the Mainland city of Beijing but I’ve also previously lived in Xuzhou, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and Haikou. My first languages are English and Mandarin and I struggle when speaking Cantonese. (You could watch my last recorded attempt at Cantonese at this link.)

A hobbyist translator of some sorts, I am a former member of the Chinese localization team for the Hearts of Iron 4 mod The New Order: Last Days of Europe but left due to time constraints of my personal life back in 2023. I have contributed, in a fairly small amount, to translating the content of patch v.1.4.0 “Silicon Dreams”.

As a MUN enthusiast, you can expect to see me at many English-language MUN events across China, either as a delegate or as a media member. The craziest conference experience I’ve had was at HKMUN 2026, where I was a crisis representative and had to commute from Shenzhen across the border to Sha Tin every day for three days (please, no one ever mention HKSTP Subway ever again. Waiting 40 minutes in line for a tuna sandwich is the single worst life decision ever). I led video production for BEIMUN XXXIII.

Previously an active member of the Chinese Vocaloid music community, I have produced and co-produced a variety of songs. In recent years, I have produced fewer songs and taken on a more music-related, UGC-focused role as I started a docuseries project back in early 2025, interviewing influential figures in the Vocaloid community and other indie musicians.

I have a deep interest in transportation as I travel a lot due to family matters and personal projects. I have been to every provincial-level administrative division of China, except Tibet as I am still yet to receive an entry permit. My favourite city is Visby in Gotland, Sweden. Travelling enabled me to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and often inspires me for my personal projects.

As a media enthusiast who dreams of becoming a Murrow-like journalist and documentary filmmaker, I have had past experience interning in the Chinese short film industry. My personal projects include the aforementioned docuseries, some short films i made during middle school and photography projects featuring portraits, birds, planes and cityscapes, which are available on my social media pages and my 500px page. For these purposes, I use modern cinema cameras like the Sony FX30, mirrorless cameras such as the Canon R8 and 35mm film cameras like the Canon EOS300. My favourite film stock as of right now is the Kodak 5294.
